The subsidiary company Staropramen Prager Bier GmbH was established
towards the end of 1992 close to Leipzig where it has its headquarters.
Prague Breweries founded this subsidiary company to control sales directly
and to build up the position of the Staropramen brand on the German market.
Thanks to these measures the sales of Staropramen keep increasing.
With its 110 000 hl of beer sold each year, Staropramen has reached fifth
position among imported beers in Germany. In Germany the company has created
and has been developing two pub networks, Wenzel and Goldenes Prag, where
you can find typical Czech cuisine which simply can't do without Czech
Staropramen beer.
The other subsidiary company Staropramen Slovakia came into existence
five years ago. From the business point of view it is a very short time
but the company has been able to establish Czech beer from Prague Breweries
as a feared rival. Further developments are limited due to administrative
obstacles because Slovakia limits imports of Czech beer by a strict quota
concerning not only the quality but also volume of imported beers. At
present the main Staropramen assortment consists of Velvet and Braník.
Velvet is very popular in Slovakia; it is the favourite beer of cosmopolitan
young people.
